An Advanced Style Summer Soirée

Soirée in a Greenwich Village Courtyard

Painting by Carol Markel

We gathered on a summer's eve in wilting heat, in the leafy, secret courtyard belonging to a few lucky denizens of a certain Greenwich Village carriage house. Hidden from the street behind a facade of lovely townhouses, was a party scene including an Indian feast to make Merchant and Ivory proud and a cocktail soirée.

Our hostess, Alice Carey and our host, Geoffrey Knox, plied us with Rosé wine as we gaily chatted with Advanced Style ladies, invited guests and assorted neighbors.

I wore a long, floral print Tucker dress, an electric blue straw fedora by Borsalino by way of Pork Pie Hatters, several strands of my gum-ball beads and a pink tulle wrap. Oh yes, and blue sneakers.

Ari Seth Cohen, the man behind the blog, Advanced Style, and the book of the same name, commissioned a young filmmaker named Derek Mega to make this short video of the party.

Please enjoy.
