Les Nouveaux Chapeaux

The Latest in Carol Markel Hats
A Preview

Normally, I'd keep these little gems under wraps until my open studio. But I'm so excited to show you my new hats that I'm simply jumping the gun to preview some of them here.

And it's all so fun and charming to read about milliners of yesteryear, so I'm treating you to this little story from Lilly Daché, the celebrated French milliner who opened a shop in New York City in the 1930's This is how she started in millinery as told in her autobiography, Talking Through My Hats:
"It all began one day in France when my mother slapped my hands and said:
"Lilly, you are a bad girl! You have cut up my best blouse to make a hat!"

Of course, Lilly's mother spoke French.
Lilly, tu es une mauvaise jeune fille!
Tu as coupé mon plus beau chemisier faire un chapeau!
All the hats are named after French girls.
Je voudrais vous présenter Geneviève.
